Install Microsoft SMTP Service
Microsoft SMTP Service is not installed by default on computers running Windows Server 2003. First, you must use the administrative tool Manage Your Server to install Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). Once IIS is installed, you must then install SMTP.
Important Upon installation of the SMTP Service on computers running Windows Server 2003, only Anonymous access is enabled on your Default SMTP Virtual Server. Users in your organization will not be able to send mail until you enable an athentication method. See Requiring Authentication for Incoming Connections for more information.
Note This procedure is not necessary if you are upgrading from Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server. This procedure is required for new installations of Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition and Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition.
